What do I need to get the 27" ACD on my early '08 MP?

I have an early '08 Mac Pro with a Geforce 8800GT card which has a dual-link DVI output. I currently have a 30" Samsung DVI display but I want to replace it with the slicker 27" ACD.

Given that the 27" ACD is mini display port only I wanted to know what I should do:

1. get the ACD and a mini display port to dual-link DVI adapter of some kind
2. get the ACD and a 5770 upgrade kit

I think that option 2 is the better of the two but wanted your thoughts. Will the 5770 even work successfully in my early '08 MP?

Option 2. Option 1 will not work because the mini-displayport plug from the ACD is male, which is the same as the ACD plug on the dual-link DVI adaptor.
