What do I need to play back 4k HDR on a mac?

I'm about to buy a 4k HDR tv and I want to download a few test videos for the TV (I don't have any at the moment).

I tried torrent a few videos that are marked as 4k HRD HEVC (movies, tv shows etc) and I tried playing them a mac and it doesn't look right. I used the VLC player.

Is there a way to play them correctly on a mac? Not washed out etc?

Try mpv, even so, I don't know how well macOS supports an HDR tv.

Try IINA and QuickTime. (Most wont work in QuickTime though.)
