I have an iPhone 3g on 4.0. My baseband is 5.13. How do I upgrade to 4.2.1 and preserve my baseband? I have read the article multiple times and just wanted to get it cleared.

With the new unlock, you're not preserving your baseband this time. Instead you're upgrading it to the iPad's baseband, so the iPhone can be unlock. This method voids your iPhone warranty (if you have one still) forever. By upgrading to the iPad baseband in order to unlock, you pretty much can't update your iPhone anymore or restore without using a custom ipsw. Essentially if you really need the unlock then you have no choice.

With in the next few days I'm sure GeoHot will come out with an updated version of his BlackSn0w. He has always come out of the dark when there has been issues regarding the unlock for non-official carrier iPhone users.
