Just curious on what you guys did after getting the new MBP?? Do you first have to plug it in for 8 hours before having to actually use it?

I thought that every laptop needs to be charged to full first time you got it from the factory... do you mean by taking off the battery first then plug it?

No, just plug it in, with the battery in, and start using it. It's not advisable to run plugged in with the battery out. You can use it while it's being charged. Read the instructions in the link I provided. They're very clear.

I've read it and the first step says:

Plug in the MagSafe Power Adapter and fully charge the battery

How long does this process takes to complete? I mean full charge the battery? During this process can we use the mac? It doesn't say in the instruction

You have to read ALL the instructions; not just step 1.
1. Plug in the MagSafe Power Adapter and fully charge the battery.

When the battery is fully charged, the light on the MagSafe Power Adapter connector changes to green and the Battery icon in the menu bar indicates that the battery is charged.

2. Allow the battery to rest in the fully charged state for two hours or longer.

You can use your computer during this time as long as the power adapter is plugged in.

Missed that, I thought that was only for step 2...but it makes sense now. Thanks for the link. It was helpful.. Any other tips on what need to be done?

When you get it, make sure you turn it upside down when charging, make sure all the juice gets in there. Shaking it helps too.

Once it is fully charged, only use the computer for 2 minute intervals until completely dead again.

Rinse repeat 100 times.

I'm not sure if this is the proper place. But i've been reading about doing a clean install of snow leopard, if my mac already comes with it preinstalled, should I still do the clean install?

There's no need to, unless you're having a problem that can't be addressed by other methods.

"5. After your computer goes to sleep, turn it off or allow it to sleep for five hours or longer."

Next step says to plug it in and let it fully charge. But in step 5 above, does that mean you got to plug it in AFTER 5 hours of sleeping time? or once it goes to sleep by itself, then plug it in?

Step 5 says let it sleep for 5+ hours.

You don't plug it in until step 6, after step 5 is completed.

No leave it the power charger off for 5 or more hours. THEN plug it in and charge till fully charged.

Mine was activated and on the net in about 3 minutes after pulling the tape from the box. :D

Just use it and stop fretting over the whiner threads on MR. ;)

Lol I certianly didn't wait 8 hours to use mine (I couldn't). It doesn't matter anyway, since you can use it, but you must have it plugged into the charger (which I also forgot to do for the first hour of use)
