I'm looking at the Mophie Air and a few lower-priced competitors and had a couple questions for the group.

1. Any specific brands you like or dislike?

2. What's the best way to use them, with respect to longevity of the iPhone's built-in battery? I've been told to charge both full, then try to drain the external battery first. Does that seem right?

3. Any other words of wisdom on this topic? ;-)

Thanks!
Chris

1. Sorry, don't use one. Costco had a really nice looking one a few months ago.

2. I don't think it matters as long as you follow Apple's battery recommendations below (one charge cycle per month, temperature, etc.)

Also, if you don't get good play here there is also an accessories forum: https://forums.macrumors.com/forums/108/

I have a Juice Pack Air and it's done the job when I've needed it to. I don't use it very often, saving it for times when I know that I'm going to be away from a power source for several hours but will probably use my phone quite a bit during that time (e.g. waiting in concert lines). It does add some bulk, but the tradeoff of not obsessing about running out of battery power more than offsets that.
