If computer is under warranty, I would do it. Good price, sell the monitor if you don't need it, same with the speakers.

This based off of the extra memory, HD's, 8800GT.

I would say it is a mid-to-high price for the system-- not an especially great deal. You can buy the 8-core 2.8 from Apple refurb for $2300. The Dell monitor is another $400 new. So a fully inspected system by Apple, minus the HDs and speakers is $2700 vs the $3000 this guy is asking. Also, you don't know how he kept his machine. Too expensive, in my opinion.

i will suggest you that you should go for the deal since i found the deal quite good and if i were in place of you i would have definitely gone for this deal..

The price for an Apple refurb 8x2.8 is $2399, not $2300 and that's with the stock video card. from B&H, the 8x2.8 with 8800 goes for $2499.

I'd say the Craigslist deal is a pretty good one. However, check out this deal at B&H for the 8x3.2 model:

Look, even at $2399, you're still at $2800 (refurb by Apple + new Dell) vs $3000 (used system not guaranteed by anyone, and of unknown condition but with a couple drives, etc.).

It's not a steal by any means. I wouldn't do it.

The B&H deal though is very interesting...

I just bought a brand new 3.2 Ghz 8-core mac pro with dual
burners and upgraded video card (8800) from B&H for $2899 shipped.
Apple sell the same refurbished machine for $4099.

Most mac pro offered in Craiglist are seriously overpriced.
I know, I have been looking in Craiglist for awhile to find
a decent used mac pro.

The one on Craigslist looks like a pretty good deal when you look at everything being offered. It has 4GB of RAM (vs 2GB if you buy from Apple) and 1.2 TB of HD (vs 320 MB from Apple), plus it comes with a Bose speaker system and a 24" monitor. Of course, the extras might not be worth much to you, but I'd say it adds up to a good (or at least decent) deal if you're interested in everything being offered.

That being said, I'd rather buy new from someone like B&H. I recently bought the 8x2.8 model from them, which is a pretty good deal. For a few more $$, that 8x3.2 system is a crazy good deal.

Let see. You can buy a new 2.8 Ghz 8-core for $2399 @ B&H shipped.
Add 2 extra GB - $50 (about $25 per GB)
Add 1.5 TB - $130
Add 24" LCD - $300
Video upgrade - $100?

Total = $2979. This is pricing for a new machine.
Granted, I didn't add the Bose system. But $3000
asking price for a used system, this is not a good deal IMO.

The best deal now is the B&H $2899 for a brand new
3.2 8-core. Mine will be arriving from B&H this monday :)

Haggle

Just haggle you ass off.

Or just give him a target price, if he has not sold it within a week or two say you buy it at x amount cash in hand.

Never accept prices on craigslist at face value.
