What do you guys think of the taupe classic buckle with the 38mm stainless steel? Is it more casual only or do you think it can it be dressed up as much as the black one?

For context: I'm female, generally pretty casual day to day (including a pretty casual work dress code) but do dress up for dinners out, special occasions, etc.

(I do have a non-smartwatch that I can wear but if I'm going to buy another leather band I'd like it to be versatile enough that I could dress up the AW if I want to. I currently have a saddle brown leather buckle but I think it's more casual than black when I'm in a dress; also it doesn't match as well when I'm wearing grey.)

Any thoughts on the taupe vs black? BTW I wish they'd kept the same buckle as the 3rd gen classic buckle!

From what I understand (at least from a guy's perspective), black leather was traditionally more formal than brown, and is usually worn at (very) formal events. However, the leather strap should also match the colour of the belt and shoes.

That said, I'm a material scientist (hence my occasional contribution in this forum with regards to materials science) so I don't have a formal dress code either. If I am attending a formal event, my belt/shoes are usually black and I wear the black classic buckle to match.

Personally, I think it makes sense for you to own a number of classic buckles of different colours (if you are intending to buy an additional strap or two). Having different colours means that you can match your strap not only to your dress, but also to your handbag/purse and shoes.

I love the classic buckles and I actually bought a number of them, just to switch the colours around every day. If I could justify the cost, I'd have bought the Hermes straps. I really like the design of the deployant buckles but those aren't sold without the watch.

Thanks so much for the input! (And again the real life pics of the band on the other thread.)

I think I'll probably end up getting both the taupe and black classic buckles, though probably not at the same time. When I bought the saddle brown one I figured that'd be my only classic buckle purchase, but obviously that's gone out the window :p it's so nice to be able to swap out bands! I'll probably pick up the Taupe first because I kind of fell in love with the colour after seeing it. I do kind of wish I'd bought the black one before they changed the buckle, but oh well.

The Hermes straps are beautiful, but I have trouble justifying the cost as well unfortunately, especially since I'd like to have multiple bands.

In your opinion, could you see the taupe band looking appropriate with a dress at a dressier (though not VERY formal) event? Dinner at an upscale restaurant, for example.

Thank you again :)

The band itself should be fine, but I think it's how you match it with the rest of your outfit that matters.

You're definitely right. Its not just the colour of the band but whether and how it matches the rest of the outfit. Thanks again for the input. My other watch is an Omega constellation and since it doesnt have leather straps it's always a no-brainer when it comes to matching. This is somehow the first time I've worn a watch with leather straps so in addition to the "can I dress up the AW sufficiently" thing I had the "...ok which band?!" conundrum. Lol.

I really like the taupe band. It's more of a subtle color and can easily pair with lighter colors. Plus it's formal enough to dress it up or down.

Best Buy sill has the old buckle bands in stock on their website. Just bought a saddle brown a few days ago because I don't like the new buckle style as much.

I'm in Canada and unfortunately the Best Buys here don't :( Thanks though. Enjoy the saddle brown band, I love it!

I have a saddle brown that I feel comfortable wearing with my most formal suits. I'd probably switch out to a Milanese loop for a tuxedo.

Thanks for the input :)

Thank you! The formal enough to dress up or down was what I was wondering about. Thanks for the input :)
