Software will be updated as well, and the update will be available for G1 iPhones as well.

Can't wait to see how Apple is going to tackle the distribution and installation of applications on the iPhone. I've got my wallet ready though.

Personally, I am more interested in the software updates.

I hope Apple can get us MMS and video recording (and maybe a direct YouTube upload) capabilities.

i hope they make it a lot better with iTunes, i originally thought when Steve Jobs said they were releasing an iPhone and gave demonstrations i thought it would work a lot better with my music. Just make it as good of an iPod as my other iPods (photo, video, and nano) and i'll be happy. Also I'm not very happy about having to buy a headphone jack just to use my Shure earphones.

Ithink that it would be stupid if they rush the nextversion and release it next year im saying this because for all the people who paid ALOT of money for the first one.
Its like apple saying
"hey here a revolutionary phone thet we have crippled so buy it then in 2008 we wil release the next version with 3g and all the stuff you wanted/expected in the first one for a higher price"
I am going to purchase the iphone even thou its cripled but i can live with that id be preety anoyed if just a short space of time they bring one out at a higher price and the essentials that CHEAP phones have

why are they beeing stupid and not releasing MAJOR firmware updates to keep us happy before we leave there asses for something MUCH more better in the future which we all know technology advances over time.

4. More bluetooth compatibility

Hardware:

1. Optimized 3G
2. 16 gigs
3. Memory card slot (piggy back with sim card)
4. Removable battery (or cheaper more convenient replacement)
5. cdma

Isn't this the nature of the computer/tech industry? Apple comes out with new and improved versions of existing products all the time. Product updates cycle every 6-18 months.

My predictions:

Today's model, but with 16GB and video recording in Feb '08.

New 3G model with different case in Jun '08.

EyeSurgeon, that might be true but Apple failed to meet even a reasonable minimum level of implementation in my opinion.

They implemented just enough to get the phone out the door then assumed that consumers would love to go along for the ride (those computer industry days are long gone).

If not for the fact that the interface is compelling (the only truly well implemened feature), the iphone would have flopped as badly as the Newton.

This is really sad for a company that claims to be a innovator.
