Just bought an ibook today. Mainly its just a toy but got me thinking. I wonder what everyone else uses their laptops for. This is my first Mac and my first laptop.

I plan to be my entire life all wrapped in this little thing. Ill store all my mp3, photos, files, etc. Try and manage my money/bills, keep up with things to do/calendar stuff, etc...

just curious of what cool/neat things you guys do and what programs you use on a regular basis

i am almost always running...

adobe illustrator
adobe photoshop
adobe indesign
iTunes
safari
adium

i use my lappy for both work and fun. i sit at a desk all day at work, so it's nice to be able to use the computer at home at, say, my kitchen table or on the bed. to me, that's the advantage of a laptop...portability. :)

i also hook it up to my stereo to listen to internet radio every evening, since my stereo is in the living room and i'm too cheap to buy an airport express. ;)

i don't do anything really neat/cool, but i, like you, have my life all wrapped up in my laptop and i wouldn't have it any other way. :apple:

I did use it mainly for college.

Director
Dreamweaver
Fireworks
Photoshop
Premiere
Cinema 4D XL
Reason

But now it's relegated to being a high powered web tubes access point.
Poor Powerbook... :(

Surfing the information superhighway and chatting to people through Adium, whilst in bed.

Well worth £600.

When I am not in bed, I use the £1350 24" iMac. This amounts to about four hours a week, maximum.

Anyone want to swap a 1GHz TiBook for a CD MacBook? Say AYE!

I started using a laptop instead of a desktop in 2001. I've done all my graduate research on laptops, including videotape capture and data analysis. I don't think I'll ever have need of a desktop again.

XCode
Dashcode
Photoshop
FileMakerPro
MSOffice- Word, Photoshop, Excel
QTPro
AppleWorks
iTunes
iPhoto
FCExpress
Safari

i have my own laptop because my parents say I have "crashed and broke two Windoze desktops".. And i like it for the portability.
I always am using:
Adium
Safari
Mail
iTunes

I have one Windows 'top, and an iBook G3.

I use the iBook for:

Music
Photo's
Word
Safari.
iChat
All on the go of course. I can't take everything on a 30 GB HD. I have my Mini for that. :)

Windows laptop:

Yahoo SiteBuilder
Xfire
AIM

Geeky science presentations (Keynote) and storage for my raw files when I my SD card is full. Parallels when I need to work on the road (scientific work place) And the normal stuff, check email and surf the net.
I still use my old PowerMac (Wind tunnel) at home as main, even though my MBP C2D is much faster.

I don't have a laptop. :( I sure could use one for schoolwork though. And use it as a VNC viewer for my iMac.

this macbook has been really useful for me:
with texshop i take notes in class, make my notes while studying and present decent homeworks
making diagrams is still difficult though
when im too lazy to latex i just use texedit
ical or stickies widgets for organizing
xcode to program c and learn cocoa
preview mainly for ebooks, this semester i havent studied from paper a single time :)
azureus and limewire for you-know-what
front row for dozens of movies and tvshows that i download
since my camera was stolen i still have the iSight
thesaurus widget

MacBook:
Playing Age of Empires II: The Conquerors Expansion
Making Movies and Burning Movies in iDVD
MacRumors

iBook G4:
AppleWorks 6
Audacity
MacRumors (sometimes)

Better question would be : what I don't use my laptop for?.

Now if it only came with a vibrate function...:D ;)

But seriously my life is on my laptop. It goes everywhere with me and gets used for more hours a day than I am actually awake....

Well it's the only system that strictly runs OSX. So I use it for all my calendar stuff, contacts etc. iMac deals with the big apps, PC side deals with game dev and playing. I find the PB keyboard is just frankly THE BEST so I do all my writing on that too. Oh and my graphics tablet is in a 4:3 ratio, so it doesn't work on my dual 16:10 setup very well at all! DVD watching too. I like being close to a small screen than far away with a big screen. *shrugs*
SO -

iChat/MSN
Safari
iCal
Calender
Pages
DVD Player
iTunes (wireless streaming)
Painter
Handbrake (silly iMac not being able to run US discs at all)

my MacBook Pro

ALWAYS running:
Adium
Safari
iTunes

I used it for Graphics, Web design, Music Recording, Video editing and Photo Editing, so, obviously I need something with a lot of power. But it's great that I can bring it in bed for like, 3 hours, or on trips and stuff.

I use mine as my main computer so Itunes, chat, internet etc. I'm not much into the graphic side of things
