AppleCare basically extends the warranty period to two years on the sport and SS models and three years on the Edition model.
AppleCare Plus which is what is likely going to be offered with the
Watch not only extends the warranty period but also give you two replacements due to accidental damage although there is usually a small deductible. Apple offers this on their iPhones and iPads as well.
