What does Boot Camp actually do?

When Boot Camp does it's stuff, does it just partition the drive, or does it do other stuff as well.

For example, can I just partition my drive into two using Disk Utility? Or do I have to use Boot Camp to install Windows.

Apart from partitioning your disk it installs the relevant drivers…

Yes, as long as you format it in FAT format then you can reformat it in NTFS format when you are installing Windows. Other than that all Boot Camp does is give you a convienent method for getting all the drivers on one CD rather than having to download them.

Yes, once Windows is installed, insert the disc, and it should run automatically.
