What does the (3.5mm jack size) hole do next to teh headphone slot do on my Powerbook G4???

Ive never used it and dont think I need to but I am still curios!!!

I don't have a PB but I know that Mic-in ports are 3.5mm and I can't imagine what else would be right next to the headphone jack.

ye steh macbook has it as well, and i ve never used it either but im pretty sur eit's the audio-in jack, to connect your mic or guitar or whatever...

it's a line-in.

You can connect up the headphone socket on a radio or other device with a fairly high output and record :)

Most microphones need a pre-amp, you can get away with plugging a guitar straight in, but you get loads of noise, again a pre-amp works best. Or better yet, a dedicated device connected via USB or Firewire almost always give a far better sound.

I use the line-in on my iMac so i have all the sound from the iMac and my PC going through 1 set of headphones, I use an app called LineIn to allow this :)
