Free software is a great idea, but without paid software you would never have free software (at least not to the level it is today).
If all software was free, and no one could make money from it then who on earth would fund computer research (and who would become a software engineer since theres no money in the field and you wouldn't get paid?)
Many, if not most of the people contributing their time to linux projects at night are software engineers and programmers making a living at regular companies during the day.

You aren't the first to point that out to me. I think I should probably watch more of his stuff. I've only seen a few speeches and an article and was very put off by him. Perhaps a rush to judgement on my part.
