Good news, my order for a 64gb black I placed @ 4:30 AM Eastern on launch date changed from expected delivery of Oct 5th to preparing for shipment and my card was charged.

Does this the phone will be shipped in 1-2 business days, or maybe today, or in a week? Is it shipping from China or US stock somewhere? Will they send me a tracking number?

Thanks

My pre-order was scheduled for delivery on October 1st. I've checked everyday since I ordered it and seemed to be stuck on being processed.

When I looked this morning the status had changed to preparing for shipment and I looked again just now and its shipped!

They will send a tacking number or you can track it from your apple store account :)

It will probably come from China but if Apple have any cancelled order stock it might come from the US :)

hmm, mine still says preparing for shipment

Mint says my CC was charged. It still says the same "Available to ship: 2 weeks Delivers Oct 5 via Standard Shipping" but no actions available (Cancel) and says "Preparing for Shipment We will send you an email when these items ship. Not eligible to cancel or return".

Was going to try a couple of Apple stores Sunday but I guess not now.

Ordered about 6AM.

Preparing for shipment is a status.

Apples standard expression which means "we've received your order, and when it's ready to ship we'll give it to UPS or FedEx. Once the shipper posts it to their web site, then you will be given the tracking number.

From that point you'll be able to track it.

Until then you must wait.

most companies including apple don't charge a card until item is shipped. And mine was shipped.

Forgive me, but I'm confused.

I answered the question, it didn't mention billing. Therefore I don't understand your post. Please clarify. Did I miss something?

EDIT: Oops sorry, I missed where you said you Have been charged. Since that's happened it's likely that you'll get a tracking number very soon.

yes, the question is, based on experience here, how soon does apple ship your product after charging your card for these preorders?

You should not ever be charged unless the item is shipped. "Preparing for shipment" means the item is boxed, labeled, and ready to go, and is waiting to be picked up or handed off to the shipper, and will update the next time they update their system. Since it's Friday, it might update sometime this weekend, but it won't actually ship out on it's way until Monday. Your tracking MIGHT be displayed by Monday/Tuesday.

Mine says the same thing and was charged today. If it ships Monday, it will arrive Sep 28th.

I've spent literally tens of thousands on Apple computers & gear since 1991.

Apple is the finest most trustworthy purchasing experience I've ever had, thus my point is to put you at ease.

Anything is possible & mistakes are made, but it's very rare with Apple.

Other than iPhone launches, Apple bills & ships in a matter of hours.

If within 24 hours of charging your card your status has not changed, call Apple and inquire.

It's Friday. If your status changed to Preparing or Shipped today, you won't get much information until at least Monday. UPS/FedEx sometimes updates, but your device, even when it says Shipped, will not actually be traveling or getting to you until Monday, the next time the shipping provider starts shipments.

So either way, if it turned to preparing or shipped, it should be on it's way Monday and arrive Friday.

Thanks for the help guys. Add me to the list of spending thousands with apple.
