Looking at refurbed 17"MBP. The one labeled with "high res" screen is $200 more. Is it worth it? What does that screen get you? Is it still just a TFT screen? Is the brightness, refresh, colors any better, or is it just got more and smaller pixels?

An optometrist.

Hahaha, that is funny. But yeah, it gets you the higher resolution display, which makes everything including fonts a lot smaller... but much more precise. Great for video/graphics editing, not great for internet browsing.

All it gets you is more screen real estate and more squinting. I guess since you're staring a light bulb the latter isn't too bad.

hi-res 17" gives you the same screen real estate as on the 23" cinema display (albeit on a smaller scale, obviously). not a bad way to go.

OK. It seems like it doesn't get it out of dim TFT land, so I'll guess I'll pass and save myself $200. I do photos (not graphics), but only as a hobby.

I was debating between 15" and 17". If the 17" high-res screen was REALLY great, I might have paid up for it, but now it sounds like I'm free to debate 15 vs 17" again.

Thanks for the responses
