What does the "S" stand for in the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4S?

It doesn't matter to me.

What _does_ matter is for Apple to get on with it and build a phone that will REALLY blow the competition away.

I KNOW they can.

The QUESTION is, how long will they let it drag on before they do?

I think they purposefully didn't mention what S stands for, as they did when unveiling 3GS, to make the S stand for multiple things: speed, Siri, and for some "Steve."

Oh well, I'm more interested in the next iPhone. I hope they name it the 5. iPhone Six just doesn't sound as fun as iPhone Five or iPhone Four. Not to mention how awkward the Six S will sound: Sixess. "Success." Or how it will look on paper: 6S.

Although I would love to think it stand for Siri. It doesn't. Because the 3GS didn't have Siri. Does is stand for special?

Did you read any of the thread? If they are following the established naming convention, it stands for speed.

How do you explain the 3GS and the keynote for it that says the S stands for speed?

Because things are allowed to be different from each other.

That's how the universe works. It happens.

The 'i' in iMac stood for 'internet.'

Then, the 'i' in iPod stood for "we used it before so we'll do it again since you're all used to that."

So you say you're certain that it stands for 'speed' because they did it before? Well, I'M certain it stands for "we used it before so we'll do it again since you're all used to that," just like they did with the iPod.

And frankly, my example goes back 10 years whereas yours is only from 2008. So I think my example gets precedence here.

The OP asked about the S in 3GS as well.

I didn't say I'm certain the 4S' S stands for speed, I said if Apple is following their logic from last time (and the 4S is primarily a speed bump, like the 3GS), then that's what it still stands for.

You're right, it could stand for anything, and the only thing I'm certain of here is that the S in 3GS stands for speed - because it was in the keynote.

speed

speed for 3gs, possibly siri for 4s

S stands for "Stale".

Hello Apple? Anyone ready to get on with it and release an all new design?

You're too good to pass off a warmed over iP4, yet you did.

OK, you win. Happy now?

I'll think of you while I enjoy the spacious display on my SGSII.

Three Cheers for Google & Choices :)

The internals are quite different.
