Oh, i feel stupid now. Not really apple'ish. With a weird sign. IMO An X would be more logic.

Just to note, Apple appears to be gradually standardizing on a green + being "new item", red - like that being "delete item", and the grey x being "cancel".
The red minus shows up in the iPhone OS in this capacity; the X symbol you were expecting is used to clear a search field and to mean "cancel current operation" in both Safari and iTunes.
