yesterday my company was doing a photoshoot for this new ad campaign they are launching and i noticed that the photographer was carrying around a small black box straped onto his shoulders while he was taking pictures. What exactly is this box for?

Gps unit??

Posture correction

Really? I could only find one, for children, to keep their shoulders back. The beeping would be annoying for an adult. ;)

I was thinking an early version of steady-cam, with a heavy weight to create inertia. :p

Or, if the camera has BlueTooth, an automatic back-up drive.

Could be for checking white balance? it could be battery packs, or it could be a handheld flash. :)

Did it have a Thundercats sticker on the front, and a white plastic handle?

Ok back o.t., was it a portable soft box? Also favor the theory about external power pack for flashes.

I was thinking along the same line, except that it makes little sense to have a battery pack strapped to your shoulder. I usually strap them around the waist.

I'm now thinking that the little black box has nothing to do with photography. It might just be an MP3 player. The shoulder is a logical place for an MP3 player, if you can believe those Nike commercials.

When I shoot with my Quantum battery pack I use a shoulder strap. I just don't want the thing popping off of my belt depending on the shooting stance I take; crouching, sitting, or leaning.
