What does this iPod symbol mean??

Ok so I've been recently having a bunch of trouble with my old 10gig iPod, but only the last few times that I've connected my ipod to my imac have i had this happen....

When i initially connect, a cd appears and starts spinning with a magnifying glass over it, and a progress bar below. This goes on for about 10 minutes then finally a check mark appears over the CD and this happenes every time and its so freaking annoying, what is it doing and why now?

are you adding music in between plug-ins? it should automatically copy the files over in iTunes-- i think this is what you're asking?

Also happens if you change ID tags or add artwork...

It's running a Disk Utility on the drive. Nothing big just a little self maintinance
