What does "Wake reason: ?" mean?

Lately I've noticed that my 2010 iMac is waking up periodically (screen off, broadcasting its presence to the wireless network) and not going back to sleep as it should. Looking into System Logs in Console, I can see that often the iMac's reason for wake up is simply a question mark ("?").

Any idea what this means?
