What Editing Software is the best to use?

Hey I'm starting to film me and my buddies snowboarding and currently use final cut express. Eventually, i want to go to a school that has filming and video editing as a major but i was wondering what program would be the best to use to better my skills and eventually work for a tv company or something along those lines.
