what does that even mean? i thought PPC was an architecture, like x86. i think IBM has many versions of the PPC, including the 970 and the G3. i don't think this processor we are discussing is either, though i really don't know much about it.
 
x86 and PPC are the architectures...

Mine was a reference to Apple choosing Motorola over IBM for their "top of the line" processor.

ok, yeah.

man, was this IBM thing not too special for the time, or was there really an indication that apple was going downhill with motorola carrying it there, even that early?

Actually, blame the lawyers as this was a contractural obligation on Apple to not go back to a G3 as the flagship chip once committed to the G4.

Both IBM and Apple may now regret it. But I think with the 970, and I know with the 980, this little dark time in the performance of Apple machines will pass. We live and learn, and so does Apple and IBM.
