i have the latest osx on my macbook and i heard x11 works for windows applications or something?
 
Not Windows applications, but Xwindows applications, which are UNIX or LINUX based.

X11 is an open source window management system used to run Unix based applications. It will allow you to run a Linux app on your Macintosh for example.

It does not allow a MS Windows app to run on the Mac though.
