I'm looking for a bus-powered FireWire hard drive. That's easy to find. But the rest of my criteria narrow the field a bit.

5400 or higher RPM (to be used for video editing)
Cheap
USB 2.0 as well
minimum 80GB

I've found a number of hard drives that are 7200 rpm, FireWire/USB, Cheap, and ~200GB such as this one (linkety) but I don't believe it is bus powered which is a MUST. I'm going to be traveling with this drive, and so need to not be chained to an A/C outlet.

Any advice on a good drive? Suggestions on which of my criteria to drop?
Thanks!

Just in case anyone searches and finds this thread:

This drive is simply awesome: Linkety

Not cheap, but well worth it. LaCie makes a good product.

Swear people don't read what OPs say before they post.

I hate to post again in this thread-- it really should die pretty fast, I hope-- but I must respond to these posters.

If you want a cheap external drive you can easily make your own you just need a hard drive and an enclosure

enclosure:

A truly awesome FireWire, portable, enclosure. Wait, sorry, wrong post.

That thing isn't moving off of my desk, unless I move my desk. And USB was listed a requirement. At least read the first post, if not the reply to the first post telling the nice people on the internet what I had found.

I second the external enclosure + internal drive idea. Much cheaper.

Get a Seagate drive- best warranty and most reliable.
What does this have to do with "I found a hard drive that works really really really nicely and wanted to let other people know so that they might want to buy one themselves if they were in the same situation I was in." (Hint: Not much. You don't even mention hard drives, although I can see that you were implying it.)

And so in conclusion, I'd like to request this thread be locked and possibly the last few posts in here deleted but please oh great mods don't delete this thread; I was only trying to inform the lesser-informed of the wonders that I had found if they so wished to know.

I had a LaCie 160 gb it failed. I bought a WD My Book 400 gb firewire 800/400 and USB and it is great.
