What external monitors and resolutions can the new MacBook drive?

I see there's a USB-c dongle that includes HDMI, but not one that includes DisplayPort or Thunderbolt. So...how can I connect it to the Apple 27"? Or can't I? Beyond the question of physical connectivity, is the resolution too high for the rMB to drive?
