Yes, but I will have to unlock the phone because I live in Canada. If the new firmware comes out before I get the phone next Tuesday, then I'm screwed...
You're not. Just press the alt-key when clicking on restore. But you might want to keep a copy of the 1.0.2. .ipsw file in case Apple deletes it.
There are sources on the net where you can get the older firmware versions.
Usually found on sites with info on unlocking.
Someone in another thread said that I won't be able to install the current firmware once this newest firmware is launched...

You can select the firmware you want to install, as long as it's a newer version than already installed (no downgrades). I only read about it, didn't test it.

From what you remember would it work like this: I'd have to press alt when the phone is retstoring and then select the folder with the 1.0.2 firmware in it? I've downloaded the 1.0.2 firmware from the iPhone Unlock Wiki page in preparation.

I read it in a German blog.
I meant: Hold the alt key when pushing the restore button.
