hi,

What fitness data can / can't the watch collect without the phone in your pocket during a workout?

Ps: I'm hoping that ALL fitness data: distance / steps / stairs / heart rate, can be collected during my workouts, and off loaded to my phone after I'm done, but I don't think that is the case.

Thanks in advance.

Best,
SvK

Apparently it collects the data but won't show you it with or without the phone. It gives you total work out time. That's it. It's actually really awful. The Microsoft band data graphs out your work out intensity minute-by-minute with heart rate, speed, elevation. The apple watch uses heart beat to calculate how many calories you burn- which i could care less about since the app doesn't record calories consumed.

by contrast here is the ms band on a run -

Furthermore. The apple watch lumps all same name work outs into one large work out. Not helpful if you run/work out more than once a day. Unless the few categories it provides is all you do (I run, do yoga, group fitness classes and then lift weights.. Run has a category but the others are all- well, "other").

Some comparison shots how apple presents are below

And here's how Microsoft presents my info (and I will say it. It says SLEEP)

Is there a step tracker inside the Apple watch, or does the phone relay the step information to the watch? Do I have to carry the iPhone with me to track my steps on the watch, or does the watch track steps independently of the iPhone?
