It took some time, but I found out what game it is.

It's called "Dawn of Titans" and it will be available Spring 2016.

Sadly thats the model every game developer is using, I hate iap's.

Any server based game either has to be a monthly subscription or free to play with IAP. I don't see how a server based game could be profitable otherwise unless they were to charge a heck of a lot upfront, in which case nobody would bother trying the game in the first place.

Looks crap, another turn based game, wish blizzard would just release Warcraft 3 for iPad.
