I was just thinking and wanted to hear other people's opinion: What genres for games would you like to see on the iPad? For me, I would love to see more RTS (Strategy), RPGs (Role-Playing), Simulations (e.g. SimCity), and Turn-Based games.

I would like to see what I call "Proper Full Games" from the BIG games companies.

Not small "mobile type" games tweaked for the larger screen.

Still most of the iPad games are more the "Lets waste a few minutes on this" than the kind of games you would expect to get on a PC or a Console.

The iPad has the same power of a computer a decade ago (albeit less RAM which might handicap it)

How about Half Life, Tomb Raider, Zelda Ocarina of Time, Doom2 GL, Unreal Tournament, FarCry, Grand Theft Auto.

Not cut down simplified games, but full "Thick and juicy" ones.

My only concern is Price Point.

BIG names would want $30+ for a game and I don't think the current "i" generation are ready for that kind of price level.

We do have a smattering of what I'd call proper games, but in general they are more 30 minute time wasters than what would would generally expect on a dedicated system.

I've heard there is some Grand Theft Auto coming. I just hope this is a proper full game and not heavily thinned out for the iPad.

More RTS games. Some slightly modified version of Starcraft II would be awesome, once it comes.

Oh, and a port of Red Alert 2. The current Red Alert app on the iPad sucks.

Not much in the way of replies to the OP's question.

Don't we think that the iPad might have a giant future as the next handheld games console system?

I think they could do it, esp if the bump up the CPU and GPU in the next model.

Getting the BIG BOYS on board is the thing that Apple needs to do. Perhaps (like Msoft did with the 360) going to games developers and asking them what they'd like to see (hardware wise) put into the next iPad so they could bring the high end titles to the device.

I'm sad to say I don't think Apple will do this, as I feel Steve Jobs may look a little down on making it into a great gaming device.

I would also like to see games with more depth. Strategy games like Age of Empires, a real Hockey game like NHL 2010 and adventures like Secret of Monkey Island. I would also like to see the resurrection of all Cinemaware Amiga titles.

Well outside of stuff that won't happen (Nintendo games, WoW, etc..) I'd really like to see more board games and more universal apps.

Battleship
RISK (Dominion HD is pretty great though)
Monopoly Classic
Clue (board game)
Mouse Trap
Turn based Warhammer 40k game (just don't try and make us buy virtual figures for real money. I HATE that business model)

The iPad IMO is just the right size to pass around playing board games without the need for storage space to have stacks of actual board games.

I'd also really love to see the WoW Armory app become universal (looks ugly blown up) and more turn based RPG's based on existing IP's. Maybe port some of the Naruto JRPG's from DS over? Breath of Fire?

Agree 100%... I've been a little disappointed with the selection of strategy/simulation games so far. I guess the developers haven't had much time to put together larger iPad games... hopefully they are coming soon. I'm hoping Geodefense Swarm makes its way to the iPad.

Monopoly

I'm looking forward to an iPad native version of Monopoly. Been playing the iPhone version but it looks dreadful at 2x.

I am currently planning an RTS game for iPad. Development probably won't be started this year. So far we are just early (very early) in the design phase. The idea is a Multi player (bluetooth/wifi)/ Single player custom game (no campaign) modern combat RTS with simple (classic) gameplay that focuses on fun. There will also be a match making system to match players up with other people with similar skill.
Keep an eye out for it next year ;)

I'd like to see some of the old school adventure games:
- Monkey Island series (but particularly 2, Lechuck's Revenge, rumored for release next week)
- Leisure Suit Larry series
- Space Quest series
- Loom
- Willie Beamish
- Ultima IV - VII
- Indiana Jones series

Zombies Ate My Neighbors
This was seriously one of my favorite games ever. A port or remake would be great as long they kept the original feeling of the game. Loved to see it include local and online co-op.

Mutant League Football
Yeah I said it. I think a new version of this game would be too much fun to play on a touch screen.

Mini Ninjas
great characters and gameplay. Would look very goof on the iPad

Super Dodgeball Brawlers
2- 4 player Online and local multiplayer

Super Dodgeball Neo Geo
2- 4 player Online and local multiplayer

General Chaos
Updated graphics and online mulitplayer would be great for this!

Streets of Rage
Updated with new graphics and co-op but keep that good ol beat em game play
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dVPno1eYbVM

Marvel Ultimate Alliance
or at least something comparable
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJdqCSR5RKQ

A Ninjatown Sequel
A sequel to the DS game Ninjatown would be perfect! I really thought this game would be great with a co-op mode and a player versus player where you're trying to defend against each others Ninjas and take over the opponents town

Commander Keen
very classic series for the PC would love to see a new version made for the iPad
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=okOZYe849B0

Captain Quazar
This kind of gameplay would work very well on the iPad. Same great gameplay, character style, and humor just add new graphics
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTbaTW9eOK4

Mega Man
A new mega man game would be great. Maybe add more RPG elements were you get exp points to level up abilities and weapons. I know mega man is classically a side scroll game but I'd like to see a 3D version (one that's better than Mega Man Legends) something similar to the latest Zelda games

Other games:
I'd like to see a Mario Kart type of game
Sim City

Half Life would be amazing! A HD version though...
