Someone told me it was the late 08 generation. Is that true?

it looks like this one to me and the blog that this one came from says this one is from 2006

That box was used from launch (April/May '06) until early 2008. If the side of the box says "Core Duo" it's an '06 box, otherwise it's 07/08.

Unibody MBs don't have an IR sensor any longer, so it would have to be an older model.

Could be anywhere between 2006 and 2007, so 1.83 Core Duos to 2.2 C2Ds?

Well, the guy on the ebay list was lying then... hmm - not gonna buy from him.

It seems to be the old MacBook (before unibody). See all Intel MacBook here! They haven't changed much, only little bump in CPU, better GPU, more HD (upgradeable to 750GB in all models) and more RAM

the guy on the ebay listing said this was a late 08 model, but this thread doesn't seem to back that up.

i thought the white unibodies were intro'd in late 2009? by my reckoning it can still be a 2008 model. that was around the time that they introduced the aluminium macbook and had the white polycarb base-line macbook on sale alongside it.
