so odd that nothing ever came out. It's been 3 years which is more than fine for a set top box, and I got my ATV2022 just end of last year for a BF deal but I wonder what happened to either an upgraded set top box or rumored lower priced stick to compete with the Roku's and Firesticks out there.

What do you make of all this? Maybe sometime in the spring? Maybe years more delayed?

Seems A15 fab is ramped down too and A19 fab is ramped up, but they probably have a huge supply theyre still sitting on for current asking prices. IDK.

In hindsight, seems weird the ATV4k 2nd gen was succeeded in just a year (2021->2022) which I also have two of those and theyre humming along just fine :p

At this point, since we're well beyond the holiday-release window, my purely *wild* and speculative guess is they're testing to make sure tvOS and the new Apple TV is fully compatible for some slick new interactive features that'll be featured in Apple's exclusive deal streaming F1 racing in the US, beginning in 2026. -If the F1 deal goes well, I can only imagine Apple would want to use it as a template for hosting other live events (sports, concerts, etc.).

Or maybe I'm aiming my expectations too high? 😅

All currently supported Apple TVs will support F1 so that doesn't make any sense. Also, it is more likely the delay with the new Siri that has caused delays in the Homepod and Apple TV releases.

I did say slick new features. But yeah, you're probably right. In regards to Siri, I can't imagine a Siri feature for ATV important/cool enough for Apple to withhold a holiday hardware release for. All the current models will likely support "new Siri" too.

I guess we're back to AAA gaming. 😶

The current models can't support Apple Intelligence. The new Apple TV will be the first to have a chipset capable to supporting it. Apple Intelligence is a big part of the new Siri overhaul. There have been lots of reports of it being delayed which has likely affected the new Apple TV and Homepod releases.

I guess Apple Intelligence hasn't been on my radar since I shut off AI "summaries" on my phone.

What sort of AI features do you imagine showing up on the Apple TV?

We don't really know. But given Apple, AI on the Apple TV is likely to be pretty disappointing.

The new Mac mini Apple TV is almost certainly coming, it will just be called AppleTV 2029... Who would buy an entertainment device during Christmas holidays anyway ... 🙃
