What happened to AV Controls in QT Player?

On my ibook running OSX Panther, I depended on the AV Controls in Quicktime Player for temporarily changing tempo and pitch of audio files, as I listened to them within the application. Now I'm on a new MacbookAir, don't see AV Controls anywhere and don't see it being able to do what I want in this regard.
