What happened to iPhone 3,1 ?

Well, my guess is that the design and case materials are all ready for 2010 ( 4th generation iPhone ) . Referring to the product reference ( 1,1 , 1,2 , 2,1 ,3,1 ) , this clearly shows the iPhone ( 1,1 ) , iPhone 3G ( 1,2 ) , iPhone 3GS ( 2,1 ) and the product reference [ iPhone ( 3,1 ) ] . This shows that probably the next 2010 ( 4th generation iPhone ) is already being designed , created and perfected by WWDC 2010. Here's my guess.

iPhone 3,1 ( 4th generation iPhone )
Hardware

-> Black bezel with a new casing material ( matte )
-> 5 megapixel camera
-> 32GB / 64GB
-> Videocall camera
-> Faster processor

Software ( O.S 4.0 )

-> Multi-tasking
-> MMS and Tethering fully enabled
-> Other goodies Apple wants to include. We'll never know

What are your thoughts?

I've been afriad to start a thread like this but ok I'll contribute. I think the processor is going to be dual core, 800MHz or faster with hopefully 512 ram. But I'll be happy with 256. I'm hoping that apple comes out with bt headset that provides controls for the phone like their wired ones do. But dual core, you heard it here first

seriously tho, the 3,1 stuff is what's keeping me from throwing 600$ down now for 3Gs and spending more next July.

I posted numoerous post like this when the 3GS came out but no one bothered to look at this or many thought I looked mistakenly at iPod 3,1....

as for the iPhone 3,1 I think it will be the first PA Semi chip device.

I think apple will demand better power management from their chip makers on the next revision still (not much of a prediction i know).
The PA semi chip has to be dual core tho and faster
I can't remember if the 2g and 3g have the same process speed or not.

tethering is enabled in 3.0...
just because its not available on your carrier doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
totally not an apple issue

I would like them to work on the hardware a bit more:

- 5mp camera with high quality optics (carl zeiss maybe?)
- Matte finish on casing.
- Better ear speaker + stereo speakers + dedicated audio chip.
- OLED screen.
- Front facing video camera.
- A decent battery.

• ARM Cortex A9 CPU (up to 16 cores supported)
• NVidia Tegra dedicated GPU
• 512 Mb RAM (maybe 1 Gb)
• Higher res screen (maybe OLED)
• 32/64 Gb
• Better camera (physical zoom, flash, better optics, higher FPS video, maybe HD video)
• iSight camera
• Audio chip (dedicated)
• Better battery
• Maybe gesture areas above and below screen

Software:

• User defineable background processes
• Multitasking
• A finder app that runs in the Background (allows power users full access to the iPhone filesystem so they can install their own apps and customize the phone, download files)
• User customiseable interface
• Option "click"

I think the 2010 iPhone should get back to the roots of telephony and have a receiver that you can put to your ear while holding the main body in front of your mouth. Also a little handle on the side to wind when you want to make a call.

No it isn't. Phones already have cameras, flash allows them to take better pictures in the dark. Why would you complain about an improvement to an existing feature?

I think what Apple should do is move away from AT&T, or at least give people a choice, especially with T-Mobile's (or was it Verizon?) bigger and badder 3G data network. How much is that AT&T monthly tethering fee again?

As for the black bezel, Apple should have included this in the iPhone 3GS. The majority of average consumers think that just because the hardware looks alike, there's little difference between the 3G and the 3GS. The black bezeled iPhones in the rumor pics are beautiful!
