I have a mix of purchased movies and movies ripped and converted via Handbrake from my own Blu-Ray discs. For years, I have done a high quality conversation and an iPad or Apple TV conversion. The latter is meant to be a more portable file. Usually they're about 1/3 to 1/5 the size of the high quality file. I religiously tag them as HD and SD and make sure they have the same meta data and content ID. Then I import them into iTunes and I get that nice HD/SD black tag next to each.

I'm not sure when I noticed a change but when I used to look at file size within iTunes, it would always show the HD file size. Recently it is showing the SD file size though. I right click and say "show in finder" and both files are there and the file size matches the smaller file. What gives?
