I'm still having this problem, and I need to change my sharing prefs....

I'm using a 20" Intel iMac running Tiger 10.4.6 ?? (The latest version)...

Ahh, I didn't realise it was an Intel Mac. I emailed you a PPC version, sorry. I don't have an Intel version of SharingPref.prefPane but someone else might be able to email you a copy or you may even be able to find it on your OSX disks with Pacifist. Good luck. :)

Try downloading the big combo updater from the apple website for the latest version of OS X (i.e. 10.4.6) and running it over the top of your current install....

Yup.. I'm gonna try this also...

But maybe it was this update that messed it up??

It worked fine before I ran this update...

We'll see....... TY!! :)

Nope... nothing has worked..... and now, I deleted the whole application... now I don't have a sharing icon in my system prefs...

can someone with an intel iMac upload their lil app to me? TIA!!

At this point, I'd cut my losses and Archive and Install (by putting the system DVD in and selecting it as the startup disk from system preferences, and rebooting off it). You can select to keep all your applications and preference files (you'll be asked if you want to do this at some point in the process).

It would appear that your SharingPref.prefPane has somehow been replaced with a PowerPC version, possibly by a "rogue" installer. I'm not at home at the moment so I can't send you the correct file, but try extracting the file from your DVD or the latest updater, as mentioned above.

I think that might've happened.. cause it was working before the 10.4.6 update...

I'll PM you my email addy so that you can send me the lil app whenever you get a chance... and I'll try that... if it fails, then I'll just have to do what mkrishnan suggested... TIA!!

I had the same problem when I first received my MacBook and installed Remote Desktop 2.2. That version must have replaced my Sharing preferences with a PPC version.

Since it was a new machine I hadn't transferred my info over yet I just reinstalled and waited until Remote Desktop 3 which is a universal binary and works fine.

Did you install Remote Desktop 2.x by any chance?

Now that I think about it, I did install a version of RD.. not sure which, and I'm not at home right now to check.....

Still haven't gotten an intel version, but I'm sure I will soon... :D

Thought it would be that. So if you can get hold of a copy of Remote Desktop 3 then it would definitely be worth installing that before doing a reinstall of your system. There's a good chance that the install of RD3 will again overwrite the Sharing Prefs... this time with the Intel version.

A big thanks to Nermal..... he gave me his sharing pref, I installed it into the folder and it worked!!

thanks again!! :)
