Hi,

I am wondering what happened to the above mentioned thread. It was pretty long and now it is gone. I did post two comments and they are gone as well.

Thing is, I was in the middle of a discussion with an ebay seller "macman812" and was hoping to find out if you can actually rely on apple care contracts bought on ebay or not.

I did send an email to the forum admin but did not get any reply.

Hope somebody can help

regards
Frid

If you were having trouble with a specific seller it should be handled via PM's or other forms not in public. However, I did wonder why it got locked as whenever someone asks where to buy Apple Care they get told to look at eBay, but once it get's around 30 pages it becomes hard for new posts to really be productive and efficient.

I don't know about that one in particular, but have you tried doing a search. A search for me brought up 20 or so threads.

To be honest, buying Apple Care off ebay is like buying anything else off ebay. Use common sense. If something looks suspicious then walk away. I have had good luck with getting Apple care off ebay. Just make sure you get full retail packaging that is shrink wrapped.

You never will - their arrogance means they never reply to or act upon any emails.

This post will probably be deleted imminently.

Well I did try the search and this particulary one was pretty long. :) You can still find it in the google cache. The main question was, why it was deleted.

What I actually liked about this thread, was that the seller macman812 did actually answer to the questions and seemed to be honest.

You're right, it does appear to have been deleted. That was a pretty popular thread too. Interesting.

I'm sure a Mod will pipe up and say something about it eventually. I'm sure it was for a good reason, but now I'm curious as well.

As I recall, it was closed at it turned into a buying/selling thread which violated the Marketplace rules.

Sorry OP, you need to meet certain requirements to buy and sell here. Read the FAQ.

Nearly every email sent to us is given a reply. Those that do not tend to be abusive emails that don't need a reply. Sometimes we will take time to reply so that we can look into a matter first, and contact anyone involved.

You have never contacted us by either contact form or reported post (though have been the subject of many complaints by other members), so it is understandable that you are unaware of this.

That thread had no reason to be closed. No one was advertising their services (well, except macman) but the whole point was to show that there are many scammers on eBay selling AC for much below wholesale pricing that authorized resellers get them for.

I even posted a link from a Chinese auction site showing AC for sale ('code only' of course) These are keygen-codes and resellers on ebay buy them from chinese auction sites for about $20 per code - and resell them for $60-$90.

I really don't know what the mods here are trying to do. Close down a thread that is a potential source of information and warning consumers to be wary?

I agree it should have been locked instead, but nonetheless maybe MR doesn't want to be associated with the whole fiasco… maybe legal issues?

Whatever the case, it's now gone, probably purged from the database, so let's just move on and remember not to buy AppleCare from ebay.

We replied to your message by email on September 18. We also replied to others who inquired while the thread was closed for cleanup.

A request to all forum members: If you spot rules violations, including name-calliing and personal insults, please report them to the moderator as promptly as possible, so the thread doesn't get out of hand again.

I just checked my mailfolders again. You are right, sorry! The message got sorted out in my google spam folder. Thanks for answering my question and - again - for opening the thread.

And I see user privacy is obviously not a priority.
