I thought this feature went live with iOS 16.4? I saved WhatsApp web to my Home Screen on iPad. I even received a pop up asking me to allow to receive push notifications but when I close the window and receive a message, I do not get notified.

I also find it strange that there is not a setting for that feature on iOS either? At least I did not find anything. It is almost like Apple does not want us to use this feature. I expected to find a setting for that within Safari. It has not been promoted with the update at all? For example: I had no idea you apparently have to save the page as a web app to your Home Screen to receive push notifications (at least that is what I heard and that is why I added WhatsApp web to my Home Screen on iPad).

Is it supposed to work with MacRumors? There seem to be more and more features that Apple hardly promotes and thus no dev even bothers to support it. It is really sad

There was a big deal made about web push notifications by a lot of news sites and a lot of misconceptions about what exactly was supported.

The only things that are supported are “web apps”. Web pages in Safari don’t support web push notifications like they do on Mac Safari. If you add a web site to the Home Screen and tapping that opens Safari then web push notifications won’t be supported.

If tapping the Home Screen icon opens a screen that doesn’t show Safari, the web push notifications might be supported, if the server set it up properly.

Basically a big deal was made about a feature that barely any web sites actually support.

It does appear to be a web app though. It even shows up in the notification section but nothing is being actually pushed

Not sure then exactly.

Why not just use the App Store WhatsApp?

It's up to the website to support it and they probably just don't at this time. A mid cycle release likely doesn't get developers in a hurry to implement it.

I tested using https://cleverpush.com/en/test-notifications/ and it worked there, so the problem is likely on WhatsApp’s end.

The notification setting just means the web app is registered/authorized to send notifications, not that it will.

Maybe it’s because WhatsAp is linked to your phone? If you set up web notifications on a computer browser, does it work there?
