I was playing with one of my classic macs and I realized that when the ruler on the screen said 1 inch, it was 1 inch in real life. Why doesn't osx do that anymore? I think its kind of a useful feature.
 
I don't think that feature is there anymore.

But if you hold Cmd+Shift+4, you will see a crosshair that measures your screen in pixels. I guess you can convert that into inches.

It will probably return alongside Resolution Independence.
