I just ordered my MBP 17 inch and I want to encase it in plastic, but I can't find the Speck or Incase hard shells since they are sold out... ??

Could it be that they are re-working them for the new mag-save adapters ?

Any ideas ?

I've tried a couple of Spec models. One for my 15" & for my 17". Both were rather poor fitting. Yes, they do fit the computer, but it's a poor fit. Just my 2 cents. :)

I returned them.

@ Hellhammer,

I have a question. Under your username there is the number 601. I see others with numbers as well. What is the meaning of them?

Thanks :)

The 17" ones have been backordered for a while. I ordered one more than a month ago, and still haven't received a shipment notification.

i don't believe the new magsafe adapter is an issue.

I just bought a speck see-thru for my 2010 15" and the magsafe doesnt fit that snugly with the case on. The plastic bit at the back of the bottom part sticks out a bit, and since the new magsafes hug the body, it's an awkward fit.

It still works, its just not flush.

The "plastic bit" issue has been covered and documented in many threads.

A guy emailed Speck about it and they said they're preparing new cases for the new 2010 MPBs. (or, better, for the new-but-not-so-new magsafe connector)

In the meanwhile, Speck advised the user to file away the plastic bit.

If you're planning to buy a new Speck case in the future by selling off your current one I'd suggest not to file off the plastic now. You'll have to sell it as "defect or physically damaged" then, atleast officially.

I would recommend staying away from Spec cases. I've read many reviews when I bought my MBP in 2008 and didn't hear much good about them. Most of the complaints were about the cases fitting poorly, which allowed dust and "stuff" to get inside the shell and scratch what it is supposed to be protecting.

I got an InCase hard shell and have been very happy with it. Would recommend going with one instead of a Spec shell.

Incase have been pretty good lately, but from what I've heard speck is doing a great job too.

Maybe they're ut of stock because of the new magsafe.
