I've never installed a public beta of macOS before now. I'm wondering how it works when the official GM version of 10.14 is released?

Will all public beta testers see a macOS update in Software Update and be upgraded to the public GM automatically? Or will we need to download the public GM separately through the Mac App Store like everyone else?

Just like everyone else! The GM may or may not be the final release.

Public beta testers will see the final release show up in the System Control Panel (the new location for OS updates) just like everyone else. You will update the same way. The only difference for beta testers is that usually a few weeks later, you'll see a new public beta version show up. At that point you have to decide if you're going to install another beta, or stick with the shipping version of the OS.

The PB just updates to GM.

Most prefer to do a clean install so that their system and library folders are nice and fresh.

Then you can remove yourself from the beta program otherwise you'll get notifications for 10.14.1 betas.

You get GM version, an later you’ll get other beta releases 10.14.xx. If tou want you can delete beta profile and then you be getting official updates , past GM version of course.

I love doing a clean install, I just never want to spend the time doing it. Still, I'll force myself to do it every 2 years or so. Maybe. But probably not.

"most"? who's your source for that info?

i only know 2 others on the beta, but we always just keep at the updates. no clean install (plus, we're there 2 weeks later when the beta cycle starts up again)...
