I am on the IUP. Last year I upgraded from the 7 plus to the X. I missed the bigger screen at the time so when the XS Max became available I jumped on the chance to upgrade.
Now I’ve started to think about it and am wondering if I might be OK with the size of the X.
In any case, the X is on the way. I’m wondering what my options are if I don’t like the Max.
I figure I don’t have to send back my current phone immediately. I can play around with the Max, and if I hate it, return it to the Apple store and keep my old phone.
I’m not sure if they will allow me to resume the upgrade payments on my old phone under this scenario or if I will have to pay it off completely.

Any thoughts? Any other ideas? I know, I probably should have waited to handle the phone in the store, but to be honest, 5 minutes attached to a cable in a store isn’t going to give me a feel for how it is to live with the phone anyways.

Thanks!

No you cannot. It has to be paid off or finish monthly payments. I found this out when I tried to get off the program in my wife’s name when I got divorced. Now I’m stuck paying my ex wife every month until it’s done.

I'm not 100% clear on if I understand you correctly but:

You have the same return window on the Max as you would any Apple product you buy regardless of how you're paying for it. You can absolutely send it back within the 14 day time period, or return to an Apple store. Just don't send in your X until you're sure. If you want to keep the X, you return the Max, they kill the new loan, and you continue paying off your X.

Hope this helps.

You won't be able to get back to the old phone after you activated the new loan

So just to clarify, because the title and the content of the thread were a bit confusing at first...
You are wanting to know if you can return your NEW phone on the upgrade program if you don't like it and keep your old one
NOT can you return your OLD phone and get out of the program

Damn that sucks...are you paying alimony on top of the phone? I'd see if the phone counts towards that.

This is correct. I want to know if I can return the NEW phone and just resume payments on the OLD phone. Or if I will need to pay off the old phone outright.

I updated the thread title.

Dont you have to turn in your current phone before taking delivery of the new one?

If you are getting the new phone delivered, I guess you have a time period that you can send the old phone back.

What about if you are doing in store pickup. I assume I will have to hand over my current phone at the same time I get the new one?
