I understand that these 2 computers may not be the fastest and latest and greatest, however they are plenty good for the simple day to day usage I use them for. The iMac 2013 8GB 1TB-SSD is at home and connected to two 24 inch Thunderbolt displays and they are awesome. The MacBook 2017 is my go-to computer for when I'm away from home; its the fastest of the two devices.

Anyways, Ive been editing videos mainly on my iPhone for a few years now. Mainly iMovie for the simple social media stuff and then always LumaFusion for the videos that require real editing and are longer than 10 minutes.

If I was to purchase Final Cut on my 2017 MacBook, is it safe to guess that if I want to download Final Cut on my 2013 iMac that'll it'll download an older version that's more compatible? If so, would this be an issue or cause for concern in case I ever wanna switch back and forth from either device to work on my Final Cut project?

Ive always wanted Final Cut, for the better part of forever and I'm ready to bite the Bullet I think. Realistically ill be upgrading my 2013 iMac to an M1 desktop Mac within the next 2 years; and same for my 2017 MacBook..I think I'll replace that with an M2 portable. But until then for these next 2 years Id like to have Final Cut working properly on both these older devices... hoping their respective versions aren't too far apart that it causes unforeseen issues.

I’d call Apple Support and ask the advisor to transfer you to ’Pro Apps’ support. That team specifically supports Final Cut Pro, etc. They should definitely be able to steer you in the right direction. Don’t even mention your concern to the answering advisor, they will not know anything about that. Just get straight to Pro Apps Support.
