My iPhone 3g is Jailbroken. What will happen if I update it to the latest official firmware?

Will it be bricked?

The jailbreak goes away. The end.

If you didn't have it activated before you jailbroke, you'll lose the ability to do anything with it, but it won't be a brick.

There are no bricks anymore.

My phone is activated with O2. So if I update to genuine firmware my phone will be official and not lose any contacts music etc?

You'll lose around 500mb if you update. If you restore your JB phone first, then update, you'll be fine.

although I don't think it'll cause any problems, It is always safest to RESTORE first, then update. As said by Tokiopop. Relatively simple process though. Jailbreaking is now very, very safe and easy to undo (thank you, Dev team!)
