What happens if something doesn't work after a out of warranty iPhone repair?

So I'm thinking of taking my iPhone 5 to the Apple Store for the sleep button recall but I have seen on a lot of forums with people getting there devices back with broken microphones, what would happen in this case if something similar happened or lets say wifi stopped working, and the device is out of warranty?
