What happens if you dont activate your iphone 3gs??

I added a new line to my current att 3g account and ordered a 3gs with a new number/sim. Since i got the phone i just put in my old 3g sim card into the 3gs and it started working. My intent was to activate the 3gs with the new no. and cancel contract/pay etf fee.
Now my att homepage is showing that i have a 3gs on my current 3g account, did my 3g contract just get renewed??

i still want my 3gs to have no contract.

If you want to cancel first ask questions before doing so. I saw in another forum that AT&T charges full price of the 3gs if you cancel contract before the 30 days, or else you have to return 3gs. I'm not sure about this. So ask about it.

I paid the subsidized price. I added an additional line to my account but have not activated that line. What happens if you don't activate the line?

You still get charged the contract fee.
