What happens to all the unsold series 8 and Ultras?

The new watches are out soon. Some stores still sell the 8s at full cost and other are just letting you order series 9.


I have a series 8 and was looking to get my dad a new Apple Watch for his birthday. He has my old series 4(which battery life is still pretty much 2 days).

Once the new watches are on shelves I’ve never seen the previous versions. Never a big sale to get rid of this stock at Best Buy, Walmart or any of the bigger us stores.

Apple take them all and burn them or take them back use some of the parts for new 9s?

They still get sold, and I'm sure some are put aside for sparing and warranty.
Apple doesn't destroy them.

I see the previous versions quite often once the new version of the AW is on the shelf….at apple authorized dealers (ie like Walmart, Amazon, MicroCenter, etc…).

For example, just a month ago, I bought my GF a new 41mm SS Graphite AW7 from Walmart (sold by Walmart…an Apple Authorized Dealer) for $299. Saw the deal on “Slickdeals” (see picture). They were sold out in hours. Even a refurbished SS AW series 7 on Apple’s Refurbished site goes for $429 currently.


I definitely think the time for deals to be had on a new AW from a previous generation (ie now the AW8) is after the new releases hit the shelves.

Picked up 45mm gps/cellular series 8 at BestBuy this week for $399. They’re out there.
