Long story short, I accidentally did restore instead of restore from backup when I was setting up my original iPhone to be an iPod Touch for my 4 year old since I just upgraded to the iPhone 4S.

Now, I can't get past the blank screen in iTunes without a valid SIM card. Since the SIM is now inactive I obviously can't use it and the SIM in my new iPhone is different (much smaller) so that is out of the question.

I was told that as long as I found somebody with an original, 3G, or 3GS then I could use their SIM card to get the phone recognized in the system and then do my restore from backup and I'll be good to go.

My question is this.........

Will the SIM from the other phone be changed, altered, etc, in any way? My wife's partner has a 3GS and she's worried that it may affect her phone if I do this. So, will it?

Is there any other way?

Would it be easier to just go to the ATT store, activate it as another line ($9.99 a month) and then cancel it since it wouldn't be on contract?
