I have got 'fast user switching' enabled, which is handy when one person wants to dive in and look at an email or some such without the original user having to logoff.

However, using it today, and switching to another user, from an account that had iTunes open and playing, stopped iTunes playing, and it didn't resume playing when I switched back.

So, that raises a few questions, such as, is this generic behaviour, e.g. all tasks suspend? ? Suppose I was running a video rendering task that was going to take a couple of hours, would that be paused whilst I switched away to another user? Or is this iTunes specific behaviour, and/or does each app decide what to do?

iTunes detects the switch (all applications can receive a distributed notification, most ignore it) and pauses automatically. It's still running. Most other apps keep processing.
