I've been playing around with the Big Sur patchers, and have gotten it going with little to no trouble on my early 2009 21" iMac

It actually runs quite well, and the graphics acceleration works like a charm on the trusty rusty old 9400M! Next try is gonna be my 2009 mini just for shiggles![]()
That's cool since iirc that was a big problem in Mojave (and Catalina?), making those essentially unusable! They've even got full acceleration going on the Radeon HD 5000/6000 series GPUs!
@TheShortTimer Could I ask a huge favor? Would you mind inserting those images as thumbnails into your posts? Having to load the full series of images makes scrolling through here a bit of a bear on an older system or those of us with slower internet.
Thanks mate 😊
I know, I was amazed when I heard! It was really my only objection to my 2010 27”, being stuck at high Sierra forever. But now this beast is unleashedThat's cool since iirc that was a big problem in Mojave (and Catalina?), making those essentially unusable!
Today was backup day for me too, I took my MB 5,2 running ML, and added Mav and El Cap. I then installed all the updates and apps I use for each version and then I used CCC and cloned a image of each OS and stored it via network to the Hackintosh storage SSD. I did my MB 7,1 running HS in the same fashion. My book, A1342, is multiboot device - SnowLeo, highSierra & Devuan Linux. I did not use it for a while.Today is backup day fir it - TimeMachine storage is configured at my OpenMediaVault box. SnowLeo has finished it's job it's time for HighSierra
. Ethernet connection - WiFi is not so fast for 98Gb backups (this number shown in progress bar in Time Machine window). (BTW, I don't like APFS, but there are some rumors that it suites better for SSDs
).
I have this almost exact machine, I custom painted the case, installed a bluray drive, & upgraded the GPU to a 7970 & have SATA SSDs. Really fast still, Geekbench 5 scores are about the same as my new work-issued 16" i9 MacBook Pro.So... It may or may fit this thread, but a very gracious Discord member sent me a 2010 macpro for the cost of shipping (which wasn't cheap, and i added an extra $70 to that because it's a nice machine). Well holy hell is this thing fast. My core 2 duos i was using to build interweb/spiderweb/arcticfox etc usually took 1.5 to 2.5 hours per browser build. This machine just built InterWeb in less than 10 minutes!!!! This will make trouble shooting failed backports much quicker to track down and rebuild. I'm stoked.

Oh, and here's an updated InterWeb (60.9.4) and SpiderWeb (2.2.3) made possible by this machine.
Cheers
Let's see Donkey Kong as Nintendo had intended!
If you're considering using the 2007 MBP more often than this one time, 4 GB RAM and a cheap SSD are more than worth it. And if it doesn't have the revised GPU, keep an eye on the temperatures.I am considering upgrading this system but I don't know if it will be worth it.

Hopefully it's got a revised GPU by now, otherwise another failure is just a matter of time. As for the HDD, working or not, an SSD will speed it up greatly. The Video Card has been replaced two or three times. The HDD actually works fine [...]
