Ok, I know this may sound crazy but I was given a lifeproof fre case for my iphone 5s. The case is water proof, dust proof, and whatever proof to the extreme. It is way more protection then I really need for a phone that I normally am very careful with and take care of. Anyway, since the entire phone is wrapped and protected I started to use the case. Right away I could tell the sound was muffled and people started to tell me I didn't sound very good when I talked with the phone. Long story short to make a waterproof case you need to seal everything up. Even though it was sealed with a very thin material it would damper the sound and same thing with the mic (bottom left - one of three) was covered with a thin material as well. Since I normally use a phone without a case at all, except for just a screen protector I did some modifying on the lifeproof case. I removed the case. I also removed the tiny material that was covering the speaker and microphone. Very easy to do. Reinstalled the case back onto the phone and now I have my perfect sound again and my call quality is back to where it is supposed to be. Now some of you will say, "well, you can't throw it in the pool now!". Derrr. I don't throw my phone in the pool or use it in such environments where I even have to worry about it getting wet AT ALL. And some of you may say, "what about all that dust?". Well, to tell you the truth I had an iphone 4 for years and never used a case and never had issues with dust AT ALL. All I did was every month or so used my shop vac with the dust attachment and sucked out whatever was there (if anything) around/in/on the phone. Never had issues. So, if I can use and have an iphone 4 for a couple of years with no case and never have issues I certainly can use this iphone 5s for probably many more years with the current status of the case and mods I made to it. And you really need to think....who keeps a phone for 2 or more years these days anyway? Seriously.

Apple is on the trail anyway in producing a phone that won't need a case. Soon as sapphire prices come down and they can mass produce it thin enough, that's all we'll need. The iphone 5s already has a sapphire home button and I think rear camera cover. So they are using sapphire already, just in very small areas.

And since the Lifeproof fre doesn't really add that much bulk I'm not too worried. I really just wanted my sound back and voice/call quality.

Thanks for reading!
